Major General William J. Walker retired as a Special Agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in 2014 with over thirty years of distinguished service in positions of increasing responsibility. Promoted to the Senior Executive Service in 2003 and Deputy Assistant Administrator in 2004, Mr. Walker’s final senior leadership position was Director of Strategic Warning, DEA Intelligence Division, where he led a diverse team of senior intelligence managers who produced science based strategic assessments on high priority transnational drug threats to the United States and supported DEA’s Drug Flow Attack Strategy.
Prior senior executive assignments include Deputy Director, National Intelligence Coordination Center (NIC-C); Office of the Director of National Intelligence. In this Joint Duty Assignment, Mr. Walker was appointed a Senior National Intelligence Service Officer and led senior intelligence executives and officers in the day-to-day operations of an Intelligence Community mission support activity.
He also served as Deputy Director, DEA Office of Special Intelligence; Director, Office of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Control and Deputy Special Agent in Charge of the DEA New York Field Division.
Mr. Walker served as a criminal investigator in the Chicago, New York, and Miami Field Divisions of DEA, and as a Narcotics Attaché in two foreign assignments. He held supervisory and management positions in the Caribbean Field Division (San Juan, Puerto Rico), DEA Headquarters in the Global Operations Division and in the Inspections Division.
From 2000 to 2002 he served in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy as a senior policy advisor and liaison officer. During his career, Mr. Walker traveled to over 30 countries on temporary duty assignments to collaborate with international partners on matters of mutual interest and to advance the mission of DEA.
Mr. Walker was educated at the University of Illinois (BA), Chicago State University (MS), the National Intelligence University (MS), and American University (MA). He completed the Intelligence Community Senior Leadership Program, earned graduate certificates in National Security from the Harvard Kennedy School and George Washington University, and was a Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Seminar XXI Fellow.
Mr. Walker, a Veteran of Operations Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan is a Colonel, Military Intelligence Corps in the U.S. Army National Guard and a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, the the Inter-American Defense Senior Service College, and the Joint and Combined War-fighting School.
